R&D Senior Scientist I - Biocatalysis and Organic Chemistry

IFF is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to work in the biocatalysis group in our Benicarló facility. The successful candidate will conduct research aimed at bringing innovative chemistries to IFF through the use of biocatalysis. 

In this role, close collaboration with scientists of multiple disciplines - chemists, biochemists, chemical engineers is expected.  The successful candidate should be adaptive, self-motivated, with a passion for science, and thriving in a team environment. The position will be located at the IFF Scent Manufacturing Site in Benicarló, Spain. Please note that this position is laboratory based.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identification, study, development of new methodology and implementation of bio-catalytic transformations with direct application within all IFF Scent molecule areas.
• Use relevant purification (Distillation, Chromatography) and analytical techniques (GC, HPLC, GCMS, NMR) to isolate and characterize reaction products.
• Develop experimental procedures, analyze and summarize data. 
• Prepare technical and informational documents that describe research program highlights, accomplishments, activities, and potential areas of improvement. 
• Communicate research progress to upper management when appropriate. 
• Stay on top of current developments in the fields of biotransformation and organic chemistry; perform thorough literature and IP searches. 
• Conduct innovative independent research with guidance from experienced R&D leader or technical team leader.
• Use computer systems and software programs - Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), electronic notebooks, Chemdraw, Scifinder, Reaxys, IP searching platforms. 
• Effectively collaborates with colleagues on laboratory techniques, sample preparation, instrumentation, data analysis, documentation, and safety
   

Job Requirements

• You have a Ph.D. Organic/Bioorganic/Biochemistry with 1 to 3 years of industrial experience in the field of Biocatalysis.  
• We will rely on your ability to understand and effectively communicate technical information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, and vendors
• You have excellent teamwork ability to contribute to multi-technique solutions to complex problems
• We will rely on your ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and changing priorities
• Fluent and proficient in English
• Preferred:
  • Experience in flavor and fragrance chemistry is a plus.
