Job Description

The IFF Nourish R&D team is looking for an innovative, proactive, analytical, result-oriented research scientist to help us discover and develop new and value-adding stabilizers and texturants for the food industry. The position will be based in Brabrand, Denmark, at the IFF hub for food and feed innovation.  

Functional Discovery R&D Scientist


In this role, you will investigate relationships between functional ingredients by applying knowledge of their molecular structure, physico-chemical properties, raw material and production method, including the use of alternative technologies. You will work in the Functional Discovery R&D team and be responsible for identify functional ingredients and technologies of the future and develop functional solutions for our customers addressing the global food and beverage industries. You will work as part of a global team in coordinating and accomplishing specific project objectives.

This role involves:
•    Deep understanding of functional ingredients and their structure-function as correlating to performance in a food matrix 
•    Deep understanding about nutrition and health aspects of functional ingredients  
•    Understanding of functional ingredient characterization and relevant analytical techniques
•    Understanding of new upcoming relevant technologies to be used in food industry for product development


Your key responsibilities:
•    Scout for new innovation opportunities; identify, characterize and develop new ingredient functionalities and technologies, to be used in a wide range of food applications, in alignment with business and market needs 
•    Provide technical guidance to collaborative partners globally such lab technicians, application and manufacturing functions 
•    Execute and plan technical work, build knowledge through hands-on laboratory work and interpret results through data driven approach
•    Document results in technical reports, technical presentations and create input for new inventions (patent applications)
•    Technical contributor in multidisciplinary project teams
•    Project initiation and management
•    Timely and proactive execution, planning, follow-up, documentation and communication

Job Requirements


•    Chemist or Chemical Engineer (PhD or Master) with 2+ years of relevant experience 
•    Knowledge of protein and polysaccharide biochemistry as well as food application testing is required 
•    Knowledge of health and nutrition aspects of food ingredients is required
•    Knowledge of food ingredient process technologies such as extrusion would be beneficial 
•    Knowledge of functional analysis and advanced analytical methods such as rheology, mass spec, NMR etc. would be beneficial
•    Ability to communicate effectively and work independently as well as in a team environment
•    Ability to deliver on time, be proactive, take initiative and provide structure
•    Fluent in English at a professional level

Some travel activity may become relevant with an estimated load of up to 20 travel days per year. Title and pay level will balance your qualifications.
