Job Description
The Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for site compliance with all federal, state and local regulations concerning standards related to food safety regulations. Maintain and enforce all site food safety regulations assuring they are current and verifying they are in use. Implement, maintain and enforce third party and customer food safety standards. Implement, maintain and enforce corporate and local procedures. This position requires successful interaction with manufacturing and quality groups in order to execute, manage and improve food safety programs for the facility.
Responsibilities
Coordinate all site activities regarding food safety compliance and advise management of new or existing regulations and their impact on the site.
Prepare and submit required governmental applications and obtain certifications
Act as a liaison with top management on the effectiveness and suitability of the food safety management system, update the management at the weekly staff meeting
Manage the food safety team and organize its work
Ensure the food safety management system is established, implemented, maintained and updated
Lead the internal audit team and follow up on all findings
Ensure relevant training and education for the food safety team members and deliver all site-wide food safety training
Meet with internal and external auditors (customer and governmental) to review compliance with criteria for performance
Manage communication with the contracted sanitation team, cleaning chemical supplier and uniform supplier, provide annual cleaning validation
Follow up on all food safety related QN’s (Quality Notifications)
Perform Root Cause analysis and document Corrective Actions for food safety issues
Maintain and update the HACCP/Food Safety Plan
Liaise externally to ensure most relevant information and emerging issues are identified and incorporated into the food safety programs.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology or other related field and minimum of 3 years experience in food manufacturing
Or a minimum of 5 years experience in food manufacturing in a position related to Food Safety/Quality
Knowledge of government regulatory requirements FSMA and USDA Regulations
Knowledge of GFSI Standards (FSSC22000, BRC, SQF)
HACCP Certified
Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Environmental Monitoring
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to include communication with customers or outside governmental agencies
Strong organizational skills with the capability of managing multiple projects
Minimum of 3 years experience in computer systems to include word processing, spreadsheet, internet and e-mail systems
Preferred:
5 years working experience in a food safety capacity for a food manufacturing company
Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance – Preventive Controls Qualified Individual
Working experience with governmental agencies such as FDA, USDA, State Health Boards
Working experience with ISO Achiever software programs
