Job Description

It’s an exciting time to be part of IFF. We are looking for a Seasoning Flavorist/Food Scientist to become part of our industry-leading Snacks & Foodservice Team.

About You:

To be successful in this role you must have experience developing and applying seasonings to food products; supporting and leading customer projects and collaborating with R&D, sales and marketing to achieve business objectives. The position involves strong interaction with customers, technical personnel, sales, operations, regulatory affairs, and global purchasing.  

As a Seasoning Flavorist/Food Scientist, you will be responsible for…

  • Execution of culinary and snack food customer projects and commercial technology validation/implementation for the region. 
  • Collaboration with regional technical counterparts to leverage company technical resources to support customer projects and technology implementation. 
  • Develop winning seasoning systems for key regional customer opportunities. 
  • Provide cross-functional Project Management when designated as project leader.
  • Independently develop seasoning blends/flavor solutions that are market preferred through bench top product development, leveraging culinary input, technical innovation, and consumer insights.  
  • Deliver flavor solutions in a cost-effective manner while driving technical insulation to provide competitive advantage.
  • Provide seasonings product development support to our customers to include building and sustaining relationships across multiple levels and functions within customer’s organizations.
  • Regular visits with technical groups to discuss new opportunities and technical needs.
  • Demonstrates leadership in successfully working with regional contacts within assigned teams to ensure highest win rate possible by developing seasonings to requirements (regulatory and client restrictions) and building customer relationships.
  • Participate directly and provide cross-functional leadership in strategic business and platform initiatives to build directed seasoning capabilities.
  • Participate in development programs for both trainee and junior Seasoning Flavorists.
  • Participation in and practice of IFF safety training and protocols.
  • The position operates in a laboratory/pilot plant/plant environment and may require travel up to 20% of the time.

Job Requirements

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with multiple functional groups internal/external and domestic & international
  • Excellent commercial project management skills
  • Advanced knowledge of flavors/seasoning, including regional taste differences, and superb ability to taste and discriminate sensory properties of ingredients, flavors & applications
  • Ability to mentor co-workers within and outside of functional area
  • Knowledgeable in raw materials, food regulations, production processes


Required Experience:

  • BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, etc.  MS degree preferred.
  • Culinary Chef training preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in food manufacturing, ingredient or flavor industry
  • 2 to 3 years exposure to interdepartmental cross-functional team roles (leader, participant, manager, etc.)
