Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Production Unit Leader supports all points of the value stream, from raw material purchases through to customer order fulfilment. This hands-on operational role includes leadership of production activities, scheduling and supply, EHS, quality, and continuous improvement within the production area and supply chain business processes.

Job Requirements

 

• Deliver excellent operational performance, leading the planning and execution of the production 
schedule to meet customer demands in an increasing culture of compliance
• Champion of safe behaviour at all times through consistent demonstration of leadership and 
employee safety expectations and practices including reporting and audit compliance
• Drive site operational performance through visual management, cross departmental collaboration 
and data analytics
• Lead site manufacturing activities, working across functions within the site and the wider 
organisation to resolve issues, ensure process capability and achieve plant OAU and capacity targets
• Strong collaboration with front line operations and deployment of resources to successfully achieve 
the production schedule
• Effective liaison with plant scheduler and procurement activity in support of the production plan
• Development of the plant MRP process and NIU consumption and planning process to support the 
production plan and inventory objectives, in line with agreed KPIs
• Provide technical and manufacturing expertise on the plant’s various product portfolios 
• Lead production aspect of product quality investigations in conjunction with quality assurance 
including the assignment and management of corrective and preventative actions
• Partner with quality to meet all product quality requirements in accordance with approproiate 
standards and lead key quality improvement initiatives in the production unit including error 
reduction, 100% audit readiness and right first time

Educational Requirements

 

The education and experience you need for the role: 

 

• Bachelors degree in chemical engineering or equivalent, a MSc or PhD qualification is desirable 
although not essential
• 6+ years experience in a lead manufacturing role in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry 
• Ability to lead, motivate and mentor frontline operations personnel 
• Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies with Green or Black Belt qualification preferred
• A strong interest in data analytics and development and deployment of Digital and Data Analytics 
tools
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and managing multiple competing priorities
• Ability to see big picture and think longer term, balancing short vs. long term priorities
• As the Production Unit Leader it is vital that you demonstrate strong communication skills and 
decision making abilities with a proven aptitude to influence stakeholders and gain consensus
