Operations Manager

The Operations Manager will directly oversee manufacturing activities with focus on local production, EH&S, quality, engineering, maintenance, logistics and supply chain. The Operations Manager is responsible for all operational activities in line with the strategy to achieve objectives relating to safety, quality, cost efficiency and productivity, production output, product and process development, volume, and delivery feasibility.

 

The Operations Manager must effectively lead the various departmental teams, both directly and indirectly reporting, to ensure that the site meets customer requirements both tactically and strategically. Through proper people development and succession planning, the Operations Manager must ensure that the site performs well both now and in the future. This position will also develop and implement long term capacity and business support plans that fit within the regional and global operations strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Active, hands-on management and leadership of all operations and supply chain activities at the site.
  • Assure all Ops departments align & cooperate with the other departments to support business growth.
  • Take the lead in cross-functional meetings to ensure the ongoing health of the site.
  • Implement best practices and projects that lead to and support a world-class manufacturing environment and deliver positive improvement results in service, quality, cost, and morale at the site.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to develop and optimize a superior production organization with a focus on EH&S, Quality, On-Time Performance, Cost control, regulatory Compliance and Continuous Improvement.
  • Lead and support root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities that drive improved operational performance. Manage utilization of equipment, facilities, and personnel to obtain maximum efficiency.
  • Assure the site adheres to global standards, SOP’s, and procedures in the field of Quality, EH&S & CI.
  • Responsible for the Manufacturing budget of the site (Opex & Capex) and for all the operational KPI’s in the field of cost, Quality, service & H&S.

  • Good people manager and able to motivate the staff towards the Site goals while also dealing with people issues when they arise. Develop succession plan for key positions, lead and participate in the periodic performance review process.
  • Besides the day-to-day operations management, prepare the long-term operational future of the site by preparing & executing investment plans to assure to company can fulfill its commercial ambitions. Assure the organization can absorb this growth & workload.
  • Manage the S&OP process and assuring our customers get the best possible service.
  • Keep an eye on technological innovation to assure our assets stay up to date.
  • Develop long term strategic plans for the site that support the regional and global business plans.
  • Translate the Operating plan for this site into specific plans for Production, Supply Chain, Quality & maintenance/ engineering together with the direct reports.
  • Contribute to the development of yearly and long-term budgets for both expenses and capital improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in chemistry, Food processing, Engineering or Supply Chain Management
  • 5 to 10 years of proven track record in management and leadership experience in a fast-paced (food) manufacturing environment
  • Hands on experience in delivering successful small and large scale projects
  • Customer (internal and external) service-oriented mentality
  • Strong communicator and vision orientated
  • Managerial skills, including a good understanding of financial and accounting principles
  • Comfortable with the concept of accountability
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

 

Preferred

  • Pharmaceutical, Chemical or Food Processing
  • Food Safety and Hygiene knowledge
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Sig Sigma etc.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization
  • Experience working in or with in a multinational company
  • Experience with SAP/ERP/MRP
