The newly established IFF Innovation Center in Dangé-Saint-Romain (France-86) is hosting its Cultures R&D Group providing expertise on lactic acid bacteria and enzymes to support the commercialization of new starter cultures for the fermented food industries with a big focus on dairy. These starter cultures are based on carefully selected microorganisms which are associated together in relevant food model to meet customer needs in term of new and/or improved functionalities (acidification control, texture modulation, flavor development, bacteriophage resistance…).

 

IFF is seeking a Computational Biologist with experience in microbial genomics to join the Cultures R&D Group. As a successful candidate, you will steer Bioinformatics efforts on collaborative projects within a diverse and international Cultures and Food Protection R&D Team. You will perform both routine and highly customized bioinformatics tasks and analyses and will be responsible for building and maintaining computational tools and pipelines in collaboration with other members of the Cultures group.

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Supports multiple projects by providing genomics and bioinformatics expertise within our Cultures and Food Protection R&D Team
  • Independently develops and implements bioinformatics pipelines as needed by projects
  • Processes raw genomic data generated with diverse NGS technologies
  • Integrate genomic information with other data types including phenotypic, transcriptomic and metabolic data.
  • Prepares results for presentation, inclusion in technical reports, and for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Maintains thorough documentation of experimental plans, process workflows, and results.
  • Keep up to date on new trends, technical developments and skills.
     

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • PhD in Microbial Genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related field.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux development environment and Python.
  • Experience with common current bioinformatics tools to perform prokaryotic genomics assemblies, annotations, and alignments.
  • Familiarity with large public and private sequence databases (e.g. KEGG, BioCyc,...).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, manage, and perform multi-task projects to a successful result.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Ability to :
    • Work independently and collaboratively is essential. Maintain strong working relationships within a multi-disciplinary environment. Show strong team spirit.
    • Be flexible in a changing environment and manage occasionally challenging shifts in priorities. Set priorities upon timelines.
    • Learn, interpret and apply department policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Observe safety precautions and abide by the company code of conduct in terms of safety, ethics, environment, and respect for people.

 


Desired Experiences:

 

  • Experience with the biology of Gram positive bacteria and bacteriophages
  • Experience in Prokaryotic Comparative Genomics or Phylogenomics
  • Experience in design, maintenance, and documentation of computational infrastructure for large-scale omics data management and analysis.
  • Experience using state-of-the-art data-driven approaches to link metabolic and phenotypic data to genotypes.
