We are now seeking an experienced Environment, Health & Safety Manager to lead EHS for our Japan manufacturing site.  

 

Your Focus
As Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager, you will be hands-on to ensure organizational compliance within applicable environmental, health and safety regulations with the government, local and corporate levels. You will provide safety and environmental support for our Japan manufacturing site, by developing and implementing effective strategies to improve EHS programs that will meet regulatory requirements and deliver business results. The role is broad in technical scope, covering safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials and environmental aspects. 


This position is Gotemba based and will report to the Plant Manager.  

 

How You Will Contribute

  • Provide all aspects of health, safety and environmental support to the manufacturing site.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations enforcement through following through all laws and regulations pertaining to health, safety and environment.
  • Manage all incident or accident investigations, support effective injury or illness case management including return-to-work and transitional duty programs, lost time injury rate, and recordable incident rate etc.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate safety and environmental training programs to ensure compliance with all company and government requirements, maintain supporting documentation and safety training hours records.
  • Gather and report data on safety and environmental performance, compliance, expenses and incidents tracking. Inform Site Managers of status, trends and progress against set goals.
  • Organize, lead, and participate in activities that promote employee ownership in the safety and environmental programs (e.g. safety committees, ergonomic committees, accident investigation committees).
  • Participate in the review of new operations, processes and procedures (as well as changes to existing operations) from the proposal/design phase and throughout implementation to assure safety and environmental issues or hazards consideration.
  • Support management of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste Disposal Program, ensure all shipments are properly manifested and labelled according to regulation guidelines. 
  • Review new materials for the site and ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is maintained and up to date.
  • Ensure that proper safety controls are put in place for new processes or products.
  • Manage the development and execution of capital projects to improve EHS for the site.
     

Job Requirements

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor degree in Environment, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene or any other relevant discipline 
  • 5-7 years of Health and Safety experience in an industrial setting.
  • Proven track record in monitoring exposures to noise, airborne particles and other IH exposures experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in development of Job Safety and Job Hazard analysis (JHA and JSA).
  • Demonstrated success driving safety metrics downward in a Behaviour Based Safety environment and leading accident or incident investigations.
  • Good experience managing continuous improvement projects.
  • Project management and training facilitation capability or background.
  • Ability to motivate, direct and coordinate the safety activities of managers and their direct reports.
  • Knowledge of Environment, Health & Safety regulations.
  • Working or liaison experience with regulatory agencies.
  • ISO 14001 and 45001 Lead Auditor (Preferred)
  • Certification in Health and Safety Management (Preferred)
  • Business level English proficiency 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-driven, positive mindset with proven ability to manage competing priorities.
