Role overview

 

As a part of the Quality control department the purpose of the QC Senior Microbiologist role will be to ensure the testing of raw materials and finished products to the required quality methods. Providing a high level of compliance in accordance with ISO Standards and maintain performance through regular review of data and data management systems.


In addition to the day-to-day testing of samples, support the GMP of the site by performing and reviewing the environmental monitoring program. 

Role Requirements

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinating the testing of raw materials, in-process, intermediates, and final products including environmental monitoring program, ensuring testing meets department agreed KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Accurately produce consistent laboratory results and meet specifications. Ensuring compliance with GMP, GLP, Data Integrity and Good Documentation Practice.
  • Ensuring that proficiency testing meets requirements (Z-score).
  • Responsible for establishing working processes within the laboratory for all tasks through SOPs, quality control process documents, validations, and compliance to standards.
  • QM master data integrity – ensure the QM master data is maintained, so that materials are tested against the current IFF specification and that CofA’s (Certificate of Analysis). 
  • Have an active involvement in the Food Safety Programme via HACCP etc.
  • Completing investigations using root cause analysis, trending results, and finding corrective or preventative actions. Enhance the laboratory performance through drive and continuous improvements.
  • Creating and maintaining updated/ accurate records for certifications and required documents according to customers.
  • Responsible for communicating and initiating any deviation or OOS micro results to manufacturing and other relevant departments to take corrective actions.
  • Responsible for purchasing the necessary equipment and materials for all analysis and managing the inventory of supplies for the micro lab.
  • Recording, analyse and interpret results while monitoring consistency of the manufacture operations.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with Manufacturing, Engineering and QA departments. 
  • Saturday morning working alternating.

 

Required skills:

 

Essential:


A degree qualification within a relevant science-based discipline or equivalent with experience in food or related industry within a micro laboratory. Knowledge and experience in Microbiology. Microsoft Word and Excel competency. Good leadership, organisational, troubleshooting, team-building and communication skills. Flexible and motivated, with a strong focus on Continuous Improvement.


Preferred:


HNC, HND, or Degree in Microbiology and experience within a food manufacturing environment. Experience within a microbiology laboratory preferably in FMCG food company. Experience with SAP software. Knowledge of UKAS and ISO methods. Technical knowledge and expertise in a regulated microbiology laboratory environment.
