Job Description

The Procurement Attorney will manage the negotiation of any and all procurement agreements, provide advice regarding regulatory compliance and legal requirements pertaining to procurement agreements, participate in procurement negotiations, assure that the desired business and legal terms and conditions are captured and contained in the agreement, ensure that the agreements appropriately address IFF’s risk tolerances, work closely with internal clients to assure business/regulatory needs are met and provide general legal counsel to procurement staff.

Job Requirements

Role Responsibilities Include:

•    Act as legal business partner by providing competent and effective legal advice and support to procurement staff with focus on obtaining business objectives while adequately addressing associated risks
•    Effectively draft and negotiate contracts and participate in the contract negotiation process
•    Identify and perform critical analysis of significant legal issues involving the procurement of goods and/or services
•    Identify and effectively manage risk and integrate the appropriate language into the agreement to mitigate such risk
•    Develop and maintain strong collaborative and collegial relationships with procurement staff, other IFF and other functions in IFF
•    Participate in project teams and support other lines of business as requested
•    Perform legal research involving procurement issues and monitor latest legal and regulatory trends pertaining to procurement


Required Skills

•    Law degree from a University in The Netherlands or any other major European jurisdiction
•    Licensed to practice law in The Netherlands or any other major European jurisdiction
•    Over 5 years of legal experience in the procurement area, preferably both in-house and/or at a law firm.
•    Fluency in English. Skills in other languages preferred (e.g. Dutch, German and/or French).
•    Familiarity with European Privacy Laws (GDPR) is a plus.
•    Proficient in researching, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements
•    Team-player and also ability to work independently
•    Ability to develop technical, legal, and business knowledge in relevant areas, and willingness to develop cross-functional knowledge


Years of Experience: 5+ years, in-house and/or at a law firm.

Candidates should possess the following interpersonal competencies:

•    Excellent interpersonal/people skills and the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization and with outside counsel
•    Previous in-house or private practice experience
•    Mature judgment with the ability to build relationships across the entire IFF organization
•    Pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice.
•    Ability to successfully manage multiple matters and meet deadlines within a changing, fast-paced environment
•    Strong organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
•    Excellent verbal and written skills
•    High energy and drive
•    Knowledge of procurement/supply chain processes
