On this position, you will develop and maintain up to date microbial strain documentation in support of strain risk assessments and regulatory approval dossiers for our Health & Biosciences division. The scope of this position includes collaboration with R&D to retrieve information and data essential for safety and regulatory documentation on microbial strains and to provide training, and compilation of the information in standard strain risk assessment documentation. 

 

 

You will report into the Head of Regulatory Science & Advocacy (RSA), who in turn reports into the Vice President of Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Interprets biosafety guidelines and regulations applicable to compliance of microbial strains used as production organisms (for enzymes and other products) or as live microbial products.
  • Monitors literature on microbial strain safety topics related to both manufacture and end-use.
  • Performs and maintains allergen/toxin homology screens for novel enzyme sequences.
  • Conducts timely strain risk assessments for new strains, and keeps them up to date.
  • Compiles strain biosafety dossiers in global regulatory landscape, as needed (e.g., Bio-TSCA) 
  • Actively supports the global RA team for production strain related compliance matters 
  • Interacts with regulatory agencies and/or trade associations within defined area(s) of responsibility/expertise.

Job Requirements

 

Required Background and Skills:

  • MS in life sciences, preferably in molecular biology, and knowledge of current molecular biology techniques
  • 5-8 years’ experience in Regulatory or R&D, with focus on microbial strain development / documentation
  • Understanding of risk assessment methodology and ability to interpret study results
  • Ability to analyze regulations to distil requirements and apply them to dossiers
  • Competency in computer/software tools needed for job, including data analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural effectiveness
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication timing skills 
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English
  • Critical thinker yet problem solver and team player
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving attitude, and attention to detail

 

Preferred Background and Skills:

  • PhD Degree in molecular biology 
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complicated regulatory requirements into standardized documentation
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural global matrix environment 
  • Full working proficiency in at least one additional language, e.g., French, Spanish, or Portuguese
