Job Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated biostatistician to provide statistical data analysis to support project objectives related to probiotics and human nutrition science. A successful candidate will be responsible for providing statistical analysis capabilities, consultation, and expertise to researchers working within the areas of microbial genomics, microbiome science, applied microbiology and clinical nutrition. A critical aspect of this position involves working with teams across multiple locations and will require effective project coordination and communication skills.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•    Support R&D teams through engagement in the research process from statistical plan development through analysis and interpretation.
•    Assist in the design of experiments catered to the research goals of the project.
•    Develop and implement data collection and statistical analysis plans to address project objectives.
•    Support decision-making and regulatory submissions, publications and scientific presentations.
•    Effectively communicate and report statistical findings to research teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•    Master’s or PhD degree in Statistics, with 1-3 years of practical working experience. 
•    Strong statistical programming skills in a Unix environment (R, Python, SQL), along with bash scripting.
•    Fundamental knowledge of statistical methodology, including general linear models, mixed models, nonlinear models, nonparametric methods, multivariate methods, cluster analysis, principal components, partial least squares, and time series analyses.
•    Experience using machine learning models for classification as well as prediction, including model selection, validation, and implementing into production.
•    Fundamental understanding of clinical/pre-clinical research, including experience engaging in the research process (across design, stats plan and analyses) in studies related to mammalian physiology.
•    Experience with large-scale data management and data visualization.
•    Flexibility in learning new methods and applying to projects. 
•    Excellent communication and presentation skills to technical and business stakeholders.
•    Expertise in analytical methods for datasets derived from metagenomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics, including multivariate modeling and machine learning is highly desirable. 
•    Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodology, statistical process control, industrial process modeling, and QA/QC practices is a plus.

Working Conditions
The biostatistician will be part of the Probiotic Development team at the IFF Madison Innovation Center. Some travel may be required, not to exceed 20%. Remote work may be negotiable.
