It’s an exciting time to join International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) R&D team located in Midland, MI. The Pharma Solutions R&D team is seeking a Technician II, R&D - Pharma who will focus on immediate and modified release dosage forms for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement markets. You will support multiple R&D projects, be responsible for executing routine experiments and completing investigations/work tasks under the guidance of the respective project leaders. 

 

The Pharma Solutions R&D team in Midland, MI which focuses on immediate and modified release dosage forms for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement markets is seeking a Technician II. This person will support multiple R&D and analytical projects and be responsible for executing routine experiments, investigations and work tasks under the guidance of the respective project leaders. Key areas of work focus include sample and material preparation for both solid and liquid based formulations, and operating various pharmaceutical technologies including blenders, coatings technologies such as pan coaters and fluid beds, mixers, and more. Additionally this role will perform material and product characterization (especially powders, tablets, capsules and solutions) via various analytical methodology with a portion of time being dedicated fully to support of the analytical laboratory. The individual must be able to proactively coordinate multiple tasks in parallel, generate and communicate collected data, and document via laboratory notebooks. The role, though very collaborative, requires working independently, attention to detail and a strong safety mindset.  The ideal candidate will also possess strong communication skills. Core Responsibilities:

  • Support of PhS R&D projects on core technologies including tablets, capsules, films, and more
    • Preparation of materials for dosage form manufacture (i.e. weighing, blending, transferring)
    • Solution preparation
    • Material/product characterization using various analytical technologies (e.g. tablet hardness testing, disintegration, dissolution, film property analysis, surface area measurements, etc.)
    • Safety focal point for certain pieces of equipment
  • Laboratory and project inventory responsibility
  • Support of PhS Plant qualifications
    • Responsible for sample coordination, identification and documentation
    • Execution of needed trials to support qualification lead
    • Support of PhS Analytical laboratory
    • Preparation of samples for analysis by GC, LC and more
    • Data extraction and documentation as appropriate
    • Execution of routine sample analysis in both analytical and Quality labs
  • Communication to the team on active work, assistance needed, and timing
  • Maintain good housekeeping in laboratory environments
  • Possibility for responsibilities in purchasing and laboratory inventory 
     

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications

 

  • Proficiency in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Ability and track record of learning new technologies and associated unique software platforms required to operate specialized equipment 
  • Strong communication skills to provide timelines for work completion to project lead, communicate results to project lead and colleagues, and identify and resolve technical issues
  • Ability to work on site 5 days a week
  • Ability to work in standing position for majority of time
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs 
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship or support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.  Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

 

Additional desired qualifications:

 

  • BS/BA in STEM related field
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical technology/products

The Pharma Solutions business will be taking on its next chapter of growth as a trusted partner for the pharmaceutical industry with the announcement to sell Pharma Solutions to Roquette. This move will position Pharma Solutions to expand its industry leadership through continued investment in innovation to meet the evolving needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and developers worldwide. The sale is presently expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. The Pharma Solutions business unit will remain a part of IFF until close and, at such time, it will transition to Roquette.
