Job Description

 

IFF has an Electrical Engineer opening in Newark, DE to provide electrical and instrumentation support to operations through troubleshooting, continuous improvement activities and direction of E/I resources and contractors. In this role you will, in conjunction with the Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer, manage and maintain all electrical distribution, process instrumentation and DCS systems to maximize plant uptime and operational efficiencies in a safe and high-quality manner. Work to ensure continuous improvement in all these areas through new technology introduction and use of maintenance best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES    

  • Support production operations through the effective troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations. This includes electrical distribution, electrical equipment, process instrumentation and DCS hardware and software.
  • Interfaces with the Senior E & I Engineer, Project Engineers, CAD Engineers and Process Engineers to determine electrical and instrumentation specifications.
  • Interfaces with Control Engineer to:
  • Evaluate new instrumentation technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
  • Develops and implements expert systems software by writing programs to run on DCS.
  • Performs software configurations for digital controllers and PLCs.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Manages the Calibration Management System (DocuMint) to ensure compliance with ISO, customer and internal quality validations.
  • Develops applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses.
  • Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Designs instrumentation systems for plant expansions, including the development of field and control room instrumentation specifications.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining loop drawings and E & I drawings with CAD operator assistance.
  • Develop the E/I skill set of the mechanics through training programs, coaching and maintenance of standards.
  • Maintain and review systems which impact process safety (procedures, process change, refresher training, new installation training, etc) such that the integrity of the management system is maintained in areas of maintenance.
  • Support safety policies and procedures by ensuring that all maintenance work and engineering projects assigned have been critically reviewed for safety & health considerations.
  • Provide training assistance and coaching whenever possible to ensure employee safety awareness and practices are of a high standard.
  • Act as a liaison with inspection and insurance agencies in terms of annual equipment inspections, insurance related inspections, provincial/federal mandated inspections and company regulated inspections.
  • Ensure that engineering projects are completed in such a way that the work supports existing environmental regulations.
  • Conduct investigations into any system failures and develop and implement programs to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Ensure that maintenance engineering work is cost effective and efficient through preparation of budgets, pricing/purchasing materials and scheduling of maintenance with the Operations Department so as not to interfere with production.
  • Improve equipment reliability through innovative modifications and preventive maintenance in order to enhance favorable performance against the department's budget and maximize equipment uptime and efficiencies.

Job Requirements

 

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent in-plant experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering role, preferably in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems with working knowledge of SAP and PE license is highly desirable.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, balance priorities, and manage conflict.
  • Good analytical skills with demonstrated ability to consistently solve problems in a decisive and efficient manner.
  • Ability to apply keen business acumen in interacting with vendors, suppliers, and outside contractors to effect cost savings and procure quality materials and resources.
  • Excellent Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, database and DCS experience).
