Job Description

IFF has an exciting opportunity for a Process Improvement Engineer at our Newark, DE site. The Newark site is a part of IFF Pharma Solutions business and is a leading supplier to the food and pharmaceutical industries.  The Process Improvement Engineer is focused on the continuous improvement of Newark Avicel®, AcDiSol® and Aquacoat® processes. This role will focus on developing and implementing plans to improve sustainability, product cost and yield. The Process Improvement Engineer will coordinate product trials and qualification of products on new processing lines. 

 

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop KPIs for quantifying sustainability progress.
  • Set site sustainability goals with the management team.
  • Champion site “green team” to develop and implement sustainability projects.
  • Develop/track sustainability improvements to meet site goals.
  • Develop pareto of process losses for yield analysis.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing technology to leverage best practices to improve yield.
  • Implement projects to reduce losses and improve yield.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing technology to implement cost savings initiatives for both fixed and variable costs for manufacturing.
  • Track cost savings opportunities for site metrics.
  • Make adjustments to products bill of material.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing technology and process development to introduce new product to the site.
  • Ensure all documentation of new products or product qualifications on new equipment follows process validation.
  • Coordinate timing of product trials with the Asset Scheduler.
  • Participate in site safety programs, behavioral based safety activities, audits and emergency response activities as required.
  • Model behaviors that demonstrate a high regard for the safety and health of individuals and the site as well as the environment.
  • Encourage high level of safety participation and commitment from others.
  • Comply with external and internal requirements and regulations (IFF, OSHA, DNREC, etc).
  • Follow site Management of Change (MOC) processes when making changes to the process.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are developed for any changes to the process.  
  • Understand and follow Process Safety Management Practices.
  • Ensure operations follow GMP practices. 
  • Participate in quality audits.
  • Coordinate quality improvement initiatives related with process control.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing operations or equivalent experience required.
  • Understand Six Sigma principles and DMAIC methodology.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis to be used for process improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, processing equipment and plant utilities, or equivalent experience at a manufacturing plant; pharmaceutical or food additive plants preferred
  • Interpersonal skills for working in teams across functions.
  • Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel).
