Join our pioneering R&D Formulations Team in Palo Alto, CA to demonstrate your expertise in the analysis and characterization of enzyme and microbial products for a range of applications.  Products will be used in the fields of detergents, food, animal nutrition, grain applications and agriculture.  IFF is always evolving and innovating new ways to stay ahead of the curve and your contributions to this effort will expand the product offerings available to our customers.


The ideal candidate will work well in fast-paced environments and enjoy collaborating in teams.  The position calls for a highly motivated and energetic researcher to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art enzyme and microbial products.  Responsibilities will include contributing to the development of liquid and solid enzyme formulations through analysis and characterization of a wide variety of prototype enzyme compositions for a range of applications.  Activities will include organization and support of long term stability experiments utilizing a broad range of analytical and application techniques.  The successful candidate will develop, troubleshoot and execute methods aimed at measuring the chemical, physical, and microbiological characteristics of protein formulations.  This position requires hands-on work in the laboratory. 


The ideal candidate has:
•    Hands-on experience in organizing and executing long term enzymatic and/or microbial stability studies.
•    Experience in protein analysis and analytical method development (e.g., enzyme activity assays, spectroscopy, gel techniques, HPLC, microscopy, MS, etc.).
•    Experience in microbial viability analysis and analytical method development (e.g., sterile technique, dilution plating, flow cytometry).
•    Experience with high throughput robotic screening a plus.
•    Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
•    Comfortable interpreting and discussing data in formal and informal settings.
•    High attention to detail with excellent communication skills.

Job Requirements


  • BS/MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or related field.
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant work experience, including hands-on laboratory research in enzyme/microbial analysis or formulation development.
  • Basic experimental design, statistics knowledge and analytical principles.
  • Motivated self-starter with high organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Versatile team player – ability to work on multiple projects at once; willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
