We are looking for a talented and experienced scientist/engineer with a strong background developing solid product formulations and processes to join our R&D Formulations Team in Palo Alto, CA. 

 

The position calls for an individual with experience in drying, granulation and encapsulation technologies including fluid bed coating, spray drying, agglomeration, extrusion, tableting, and solids handling from a process, materials and characterization perspective.  In addition, a strong background in materials science and physical characterization is desired.  The applicant should have a proven track record of invention, as evidenced by patents and successful new product commercialization.  The individual must perform well within a collaborative, team oriented environment.   This position will be responsible for supporting the development of innovative new solid enzyme product formulations targeted to the cleaning, textile, food and animal nutrition markets.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • PhD or equivalent experience in chemical engineering, materials science, pharmaceutical science, food science, controlled release, formulation science or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years industrial experience in the design and development of solid product formulations, including product and materials characterization, ideally applied to biological actives.
  • Hands on experience with granulation processes with an understanding of process scale-up and economics.
  • Experience with materials characterization methods such as FTIR, DSC, DVS, XRD, SEM, particle size analysis, densitometry, porosimetry, and tensile testing.
  • Working knowledge of protein chemistry and stability.
