IFF recreated itself in February 2021 with acquisition of the renowned Palo Alto Genencor biotechnology platform. This new company brings technical strengths in industrial biotechnology and chemical synthesis.


IFF is expanding our microbial engineering platform at our R&D labs in Palo Alto, CA. We are a large and growing company that invests in biotechnology to improve the sustainability, function, and value of our customers’ products. R&D projects are carried out by interdisciplinary teams that take a molecule from concept to product using cutting edge technology. We have an established global manufacturing base and work closely with our customers to develop products that make consumers’ lives better.


We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with expertise in metabolomics or automated strain engineering to develop and implement HTP methods for our bacterial production platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to join IFF Palo Alto Research and Development Center, which is a pioneer in industrial biotechnology research.


We seek: 


Synthetic biologists with experience in bacterial molecular biology 

Scientists with a vision for developing and implementing metabolomics methods and workflows 

Strain engineers familiar with automated molecular biology and computational design/ analysis 

Researchers with good communication skills and the desire to work in a global, multi-disciplinary environment


Job Requirements


On a day-to-day basis, you’ll operate, improve and establish workflows. As an integrated member of project teams, you will use cutting-edge automation technology to improve customers’ products. You will collaborate to adopt new strategies, instrumentations and methods that enable the organization to design, build and test with shortened timelines and improved sensitivity. We are looking for a candidate with: 


• B.A./B.S. or M.S. or Ph.D. in bacterial molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioengineering or a related field 
• 2-4 years of postdoc and/or industrial work experience 
• Experience with genetic modification of microbial hosts 
• Development and application of metabolomic methods to address biological problems
• Experience using automated methods to design and/or build microbes 
• Excellent communication and presentation skills


Additional (non-essential) qualifications: 

• Familiarity with programming languages for data management (e.g. Python/Pandas, R). Benchling and NGS analysis
• Familiarity with CRISPR/CAS
