IFF has exciting and challenging opportunity for a Quality Manager supporting the METHOCELTM production facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana. This growing cGMP facility produces industry-leading cellulosic products for the pharmaceutical excipient market.

This position is responsible for the overall implementation of site quality management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and IFF corporate standards, as well as implementation and maintenance of Product and Food Safety processes, culture of quality, and continuous improvement programs. 



  • BS Degree in a Life or Chemical Science; Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science or similar science-based degrees preferred.




  • Minimum of seven years in a food, chemical, or pharmaceutical environment with a minimum of two years of experience in a quality assurance and quality control.


Job Requirements


Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Accountable for compliance and certification to ISO 9001:2015, FSSC, EXCiPACT and other Regulatory standards.  Accountable for maintaining a superior rated level of GMP’s and sanitation and be ready for regulatory/customer inspections at any time.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing the overall Quality Management System for the site including SOP’s and guidelines for the plant.
  • Manage the Quality and Analytical Department.  Directly manage employees in the Quality and Analytical (laboratory) department in both quality assurance and quality control.
  • Ensure that all finished product meets appropriate IFF and quality standards to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability
  • Act as the technical liaison with customers, vendors, and creative department in resolution of quality issues.
  • Investigate and make recommendations on appropriate site-related quality issues through use of records, lab experiments, professional knowledge and observation, and prior knowledge to develop and maintain good customer relations and internal cost controls.
  • Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include directing, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Direct the Quality Lab Operations Leader in the testing of products for a variety of qualities such as microbiological, physical, and chemical characteristics.
  • Ensure all internal and external laboratory tests, procedures, and methods are executed correctly. Support the development of new product test methods and specifications in conjunction with manufacturing, marketing, product development, and sales functions.
  • Manage all site customer quality visits and audits in conjunction with appropriate Management Team members.
  • Function as a member of the Site Management Team providing site-wide leadership and strategic direction to issues affecting the plant such as safety, quality, financial, human resources, environmental, and regulatory concerns.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by providing leadership on all safety-related issues and actively participating in plant safety initiatives.



  • Knowledge of manufacturing and chemistry applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Pharmaceutical and Food Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Trained to conduct root causes analysis.
  • Chemical processing knowledge.
  • Basic statistical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence teams and resolve conflicts in support of organizational goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively, professionally and respectfully in a team-based environment to involve peers, customers, line management and technical competency experts.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills (leadership, written and oral communication skills, financial).
  • Can coach and positively influence behavior change in others for the benefit of the organization.
  • Continuous improvement mindset – eliminates non-value-added work for the organization.  Project execution capability at the green belt level preferred.
  • Fully versed in application of Management of Change.
  • Comfortable and competent at interfacing with external organizations.
