Job Description

International Fragrances & Flavors Inc (IFF) is looking for an experienced Process Control & Automation (PC&A) Engineer for our Rochester, New York Cultures & Health site, Health & Bioscience division. The Engineer will work as a key team member in the Manufacturing Technology organization in Rochester supporting production operations, continuous improvement, Process Safety Management (PSM) and capital projects.  In this position, the PC&A Engineer’s role is to lead efforts to increase the safety, robustness, and productivity of our manufacturing systems while optimizing production efficiency through process control and technology improvements, in a state-of-the-art mindset.

 

Core responsibilities – Operations & Project Support (70-100%)

  • Program PLC and troubleshoot Process Control code (Rockwell PLCs and ABB 800xA)
  • Drive Functional Specifications design of specific changes or projects in collaboration with Project / Process Engineers
  • Write and maintain Automation design documents, such as System Architecture, IOs list and Automation hardware BoM (Field hardware as well as Systems core) 
  • Prepare and realize qualification phases for minor changes as well as significant projects involving Automation – FAT / EAT / SAT
  • Design, enhance, implement SCADA systems to create efficient, intuitive, and effective operator HMI (WW Aveva InTouch / OMI and ABB Panel builder / Compact HMI)
  • Management of server-based and client hardware and software systems to maintain Primary control health – including daily monitoring, back-ups, Active Directory Management and Antivirus update
  • Train and daily assist Operations Personnel and Process Engineers in their usage of Control Systems

 

Other responsibilities – Process Safety Management & Continuous Improvement (0-30%)

  • Participate in PSM program (Process Safety Management): includes participation in PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), MOC (Management of Change) and SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) management.
  • Maintain and proactively propose improvement solutions for FBN / PCN / OMN networks to increase both efficiency, operations continuity and CyberSecurity
  • Understand, troubleshoot, execute improvements in the future Recipe Manager application (InBatch from WW Aveva)
  • Understand, troubleshoot, execute improvements in the Automated Data Management Systems (OSI PI Historian Software)
  • Maintain and realize changes in OEE software (TrakSys)
  • Implement digitalization efforts at the sites in regard to prioritized initiatives

Job Requirements

  • Master or Bachelors degree in Factory Automation and Industrial Computing 
  • 5+ years experience & hands on control command applications: PLCs (Rockwell and/or ABB systems) and SCADA (WW Aveva and/or ABB)
  • Interest / experience in project work related to automation (functional description, IO, FAT, SAT, commissioning, etc.)
  • Interest / experience in SQL database design & management is a plus
  • Interest /experience in electrical & instrumentation design as well as in control loop design
  • Knowledge & experience on ISA-88, ISA-95 implementation as well as Batch recipe management is a plus
  • Agility, close to the field, dynamic, proactive, open-minded, committed to objectives and ready to demonstrate full engagement in the success of the plant
  • Affinity for process engineering in a production environment
  • Adaptative mind, management of change, anticipative mind is essential
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a highly engaging and dynamic team environment with differing cultures, backgrounds, and experience levels
  • Demonstrated verbal, written, analytical skills as well as ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Autonomous, able to work independently, proactively, and creatively to identify and lead process/automation improvement opportunities
  • Experience teaching and presenting technical designs, solutions, and skills to employees at all levels of the organization
  • Project organizational skills 
  • Some business trips to other plants of the company in the US
