The Team
Shanghai Culture Development team is an important part of the Global Technology & Innovation – Cultures, Food Enzymes & Food Protection Department. We are working very closely with the other three sites at USA, France and Denmark on R&D projects. We aim to unfold the power of nature’s microorganisms and enzymes to deliver sustainable solutions answering the global need for healthier, safer, and tastier foods. We leverage our unrivaled capabilities to master microbial diversity and biotechnology to collaboratively provide inventive ideas and unique, tailored food solutions for customers and consumers.  It is a globalized and diverse team with many highly recognized scientists. It has many publications on top journals including Science and Nature, and wined many well-known scientific awards, such as Massry Prize, Bower Award and Prize for Achievement in Science, and Canada Gairdner International Award.


Opportunity of this position

  • We are looking for an Associate Scientist to be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Independently perform sensory activities to deliver key results in a timely manner
  • Mange an external expert panel
  • Organize and manage sensory tests with trained panels and implement the most appropriate existing tests or develop new protocols if needed
  • Record, analyze and report results using statistical tools
  • Conduct data interpretation and information sharing with the wider research team
  • Conduct descriptive panel training and company-wide sensory training as needed. 
  • Monitor panelist performance through designed experiments and appropriate stats analysis.
  • Continually identify opportunities to improve current procedures, protocols, and systems
  • Present results at team and department meetings, and at external scientific conferences

Job Requirements

You are well qualified if you have the following education, experience, skills and attributes:

  • Master or PhD Degree in Food Science
  • Well trained in Sensory Science
  • Experienced (3+ years) in independently leading sensory analysis with applied statistics knowledge
  • Strong interest in sensory perception and interactions
  • Knowledge of a variety of sensory and psychophysics data analyses
  • General understanding and application of statistical tools
  • Proficiency in the use of sensory data acquisition tools such as EyeQuestion sensory analysis software as well as Microsoft Office applications
  • Highly organized with an ability to work under tight deadlines and with little direction.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business needs.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and talent for organization
  • Excellent communication skills in working with internal and external customers
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English.
