Job Description

Responsible for supporting probiotic and microbiome research efforts within IFF. Main activities focus on exploring health benefits of IFF strains with in vitro and in vivo models, molecular method development and scientific visibility to execute the innovation strategy to our Probiotics efforts. The individual will contribute to providing state-of-the art collaborative technical support to customers and to partnerships with academic institutions and external service providers. This position is based in Shanghai, China. Occasional travel might be needed to support customer, meet collaborators and attend conferences. This position operates in an office/laboratory environment and reports to the Probiotic Leader.

 

 

Your focus

•    Drive the exploration of potential health benefits of IFF strains with or without prebiotics.
•    Development of novel in vitro assays to model the complex interactions amongst human microbiota, between probiotics and host.
•    Support local business requests.
•    Expand local collaborative network. Identify academic collaborators with mutual beneficial opportunities. 
•    Support and expand intelligent properties.


 

How you will contribute and lead

•    Ability to lead bench top work independently, including designing experiment, executing assays, overcoming technical challenges, delivering results on time and presenting project outcomes to project team. 
•    Represent R&D as a scientific expert and resource for internal and external customers, giving scientific presentations, and answering technical questions.
•    Keep up to date on new research trends, technical developments and skills by monitoring the scientific and trade literature, competitors’ activities, new methods and processes in microbiome science and associated areas through continuing education and/or technical seminars.
•    Ability to network broadly within the corporation and across academia.
•    Ability to work in different cultural contexts successfully, including flexible hours to work with teams in other global regions.
•    English skill is preferred, both written and oral.

Job Requirements

What you will need to be successful

•    PhD in biology, nutrition, food science or related scientific field 
•    Proven ability to interact effectively with multifunctional teams
•    Extensive expertise in cell culture and functional evaluation is required.
•    Demonstrated expertise in assay development, implementation, and data analysis
•    Comfortable in communicating and writing in English
•    Familiarity with latest developments in the probiotic field is a plus but not required
•    Enthusiastic, proactive, and innovative.
•    Flexible, comfortable with ambiguity and change
•    Must be able to work collaboratively in fast-paced development environment with competing priorities
