NATURE OF WORK

 

To produce dry powder food ingredient blends for IFF customers in a safe and efficient manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

 

 

  • Verify batch weights and quantities through mathematical calculations.
  • Operate weight scales ensuring measuring accuracy within +/-.3 pounds.
  • Properly and accurately sign off for raw materials retrieved, checking for foreign materials, rework generated, finished product produced, date, and time completed on computer generated batch reports.
  • Properly and accurately check all batch ingredients and packaging materials against a computer generated batch report.
  • Proper opening, cleaning, and dumping of materials into equipment.
  • Understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practices for the care, handling, and storage of food products; and report any known or observed violations to management.
  • Operate a forklift in a safe manner.  Must understand and follow all safety procedures.
  • Utilize HACCP philosophy and procedures in everyday work routine.
  • Accurately and efficiently operate all 5 Blend Area’s and the sample mixers.  
  • Accurately take physical inventory counts of all raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Ensure that the builders and pullers are working together on the same products.
  • Monitor current levels of raw materials and advise Production Supervisor of possible shortages.
  • Other functions as required (nonessential functions).
  • Responsible for adherence to all quality systems including ISO 14001 and Food Safety with an understanding of IFF’s Quality Policy and procedures.

Short Description

  • Ability to read and understand computer generated batch reports and follow packaging specifications.
  • Ability to distinguish product names, resource numbers, lot numbers and warehouse locations.
  • Ability to accurately calculate material weights and percentages for “piece weight” purposes.
  • Must be knowledgeable and competent with the I.L.V.T. processes across all Blend Areas, with a strong performance history.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently operate packaging equipment within +/- .3 pounds.
  • Ability to ensure team members are following safety procedures using the tools provided to work in a safe manner; must be able to recognize and manage risks. 
  • Ability to continuously lift up to and including 25 KG packages in a safe manner.
  • Must possess and exhibit organizational skills to properly stage batch ingredients and/or packaging materials into one condensed area.
  • Ability to use motivational skills with coworkers for accurate and efficient production.
  • Must possess and exhibit good verbal communication skills to communicate with all departments and coworkers to alert management of problems or needs to ensure proper continuous operations.
  • Must understand and follow procedures of the department for the proper use of the department's equipment.
  • Must understand and follow procedures for pulling retain samples and/or Q.C. samples as noted on batch report with placement in designated boxes.
  • Must have a high level of knowledge in SAP demonstrating the ability to accurately complete PI Sheets, Piece Returns, and Maintenance Work Orders.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accurately acknowledge alarms in Traksys ensuring the proper codes are being issued. 
  • Ability to place finished product and rework in their designated place as requested by warehouse people, noting on batch report the location.
  • Must possess knowledge of all raw materials to ensure against foreign contamination or unusual physical qualities.
  • Must understand and follow all plant policies concerning safety/emergency, conduct, maintenance, sanitation and current procedures designed for the department.
  • Must understand and follow all procedures regarding the cleaning of magnets and make sure the metal checks are checked before the start of each shift.
  • Ability to train personnel in current production procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to organize and lead the production staff for accurate and efficient production.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess a high school or equivalent education.  The incumbent must be able to follow written or verbal instructions.  The ability to work independently and in accordance with company safety and sanitation standards is required.  Knowledge of DCUSM's equipment is required.  Previous food plant experience helpful.  Forklift truck experience and license required.  Strong mathematical ability required.


SCOPE OF POSITION

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.  Incumbent must be able to work overtime as needed.
Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties and responsibilities of this position at any time.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates in a production/plant environment 100 percent of the time.  Exposure to hazardous materials training is a requirement.  Must wear safety clothing, safety glasses, and protective mask when required.  Forklift training and license are required.
