As leader for the Process R&D team, the candidate must be able to assist his/her team, prioritize work on new process development projects and technologies, support production plants to deliver improvements to rate, quality, and cost, and also support technology transfer for new products from R&D and pilot plant scale to the plant. 

Other needs are excellent communication and people development skills.
The role will interface with the Manufacturing Technology team (MT),  Global R&D, and manufacturing.   Candidate must be able to communicate well across these organizational lines.  Candidate will also have a strong passion for personal development. There is a strong need to continue to develop scientists and engineers for both technical leadership positions and future managerial roles.

The primary tasks in the position are to:
•  People leadership. Coach and mentor  staff, work on small incremental process improvements or more detailed scopes for new technology improvements.  Set priorities and allocate resources in alignment with overall business objectives. Be a role model.
•  Perform bridging function between R&D , Project Management Office,  MT and Operations. 
•  Proactively solve issues going from small scale (lab or pilot plant) to large scale production. 
•  Identify and implement process improvements in close cooperation with the production sites to improve quality, cost, safety, environmental footprint and release capacity.      
•  Find and implement new technologies and processes. 
•  Resource and lab/pilot plant administration. Drive site initiatives (e.g. SHE, PSM, QA, HR). Manage cost center budget and investments.  
•  Expected to travel as necessary, but not more than 20%.


Job Requirements


You are a scientist or chemical/mechanical process engineer. 
You bring a good practical and theoretical understanding of daily challenges in both research and production unit settings so that you can leverage knowledge globally. 
You have an excellent understanding of chemical unit operations and understanding of thermodynamics, kinetics, and process chemistry.   
You should be able to speak and write English fluently. 
Being able to communicate in  Portuguese, Chinese is an advantage.   
You are an outgoing and proactive person and have an open mind to other cultures and adapt to situations in order to secure a communication and a workflow that will become better and stronger over time. 

Person must have strong skills in managing and communicating technology work streams progress.   Six sigma skills and certification are a strong plus.
The candidate will report to the process development lead for the Nourish division for IFF.
