Job Description

IFF is a leading company in the creation and production of flavors and fragrances. Our products are utilized in the food industry, soap and detergent industry, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. 

 

For our production facility in Tilburg, which falls under the BRZO legislation, we are seeking an Environmental Engineer to strengthen our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department. The EHS department is responsible for translating the IFF Policy into procedures related to Environment, Health, and Safety for all IFF employees in Tilburg.

 

The Environmental Engineer to support the production activities at IFF-Tilburg, with expertise in applying best practices. You will also ensure compliance with the Environmental Permit and other relevant Dutch and European laws and regulations. You will maintain the certified environmental management system according to ISO-14001, including energy management, and ensure compliance with other applicable environmental laws and regulations
 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handle operational matters arising from the current Environmental Permit to ensure compliance with its requirements.
  • Coordinate inspection visits from the Environmental Services Middle and West Brabant (OMWB).
  • Submit environmental permits (e.g., construction, demolition, etc.) arising from projects.
  • Submit interim (environmentally neutral) changes arising from projects.
  • Support environmental and/or sustainability projects for the IFF-Tilburg location.
  • Participate in the local Green teams to develop sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit the (electronic) Environmental Annual Report for IFF-Tilburg annually.
  • Provide various reports to government authorities and industry associations annually.
  • Develop and maintain the annual odor and emission measurement plan to ensure up-to-date data is available, and corrective actions can be taken in case of potential norm exceedances.
  • Maintain and monitor the certified environmental management system (ISO-14001) within IFF, ensuring compliance with all external and internal requirements.
  • Support the local Waste & Recycling department to enhance the local waste streams and optimize waste recycling.
  • Conduct internal audits for the Environmental Management System.
  • Stay informed about relevant developments in environmental laws and regulations and propose procedures and practices for IFF-Tilburg to meet European and Dutch requirements.
  • Evaluate proposed environmental solutions to support operations.
  • Investigate causes and make recommendations for improvement in case of complaints or emergencies to minimize future risks.
  • Conduct Environmental incident root cause analysis and advise the organization on counter measures.
  • Develop and deliver relevant training sessions.

Job Requirements

  • You have a Master OR Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or an equivalent degree.
  • We will rely on your solid work experience of 7-10 years in the chemical industry, government, consulting firm, or consumer product industrial production environment in an environmental engineer role.
  • Your expertise in environmental laws and regulations, monitoring methods, environmental testing, and related regulatory equipment.
  • You have worked in a regulatory environment dealing with environmental issues.
  • Ability to work independently with a reputation for passion, drive, influencing skills, and intercultural adaptability.
  • You have practical knowledge of compliance with environmental program regulations and maintenance of legally required programs.
