We are currently seeking for a Senior Analytical Scientist Biodegradation to join our team in Tilburg, Netherlands.

As a Senior Analytical Scientist, you will join the IFF Tilburg Biodegradation R&D group, focused on delivering high quality biodegradation methods and results to support IFF R&D projects.  In this position, you are member of our global Advanced Analytical R&D team conducting biodegradation chemistry research and development for scent technologies to drive continued business growth at IFF.  

In this position, you will lead, plan, and execute complex technical work in the area of biodegradation research. You will be translating IFF R&D and product development needs into new methodologies by working closely with colleagues around the world. All under guidance from senior technical management.

Your daily activities include execution of laboratory bench experiments as well as bringing and developing new technologies, methods and conceptual approaches to R&D. Some examples of typical tasks are: 

• Run biodegradation metabolite analysis using GCMS and automated l/l extraction.
• Run standard biodegradation test methods
• Expand suite of operational biodegradation test methods.
• Expand suite of sources of inoculum.

Being at the forefront of biodegradation testing requires a deep understanding of relevant, state-of-the art analytical tools and methods. You should therefore enjoy monitoring developments in these areas closely, and pro-actively explore and pursue new and alternative technical approaches. These can be both internally or externally oriented, and should include the automation of workflows, as well as data collection and analysis.

This position is for a Senior Scientist with significant proven skills and interests in bench-level technical work and requires in depth practical and conceptual understanding of key analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry, chromatography, biodegradation testing and lab automation.   

You will report to the Biodegradation team leader in Tilburg.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct operational biodegradation tests
• Conduct metabolite analysis using GCMS
• Collaborate with R&D modelling team for biodegradation models
• Development and deployment of analytical approaches and project plans
• Development and integration of relevant automated workflows and data management

Job Requirements

• You have a MS degree in Analytical Chemistry or a related area with at least 2 years of appropriate experience or equivalent.
• The successful candidate has demonstrated expertise in gas-/liquid-chromatography and mass spectrometry.
• You have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Fluent in English language.
• Basic in Dutch language.

Preferred:

• Fluent in Dutch language.
• The preferred candidate has experience in one of following areas:
• Biodegradation testing
• Flavor- fragrance industry
• Food industry
• Pharma industry
• Demonstrated expertise in automated sample preparation/data handling.
• Demonstrated ability to work with remote colleagues.
