IFF is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to work in the Advanced Analytical Biosciences group located at the Wilmington, Delaware site. The successful candidate will be part of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) group developing solution NMR based bioanalytical methods to support various business problems and research programs. 

 

In this role, close collaboration with scientists of multiple disciplines - chemists, biochemists, micro- and molecular biologists, and fermentation engineers is expected.  The successful candidate should be adaptive, self-motivated, with a passion for science, and thriving in a team environment. The position will be located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware, USA.  Please note that this position is laboratory based.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced NMR methodologies to support new and current research and business technology platforms.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary analytical and project teams with the goal of providing analytical solutions to complex problems.
  • Develop, implement and perform sample preparation of broad variety of novel materials.
  • Design NMR experimental plans and develop methods which produce timely, high quality, data driven and innovative solutions to contribute to success of research and business programs.  Acquire experiments and perform analysis/characterization of NMR raw data.
  • Summarize and communicate results in discussions with colleagues, presentations to project teams and in formal reports.
  • Advance NMR offerings through implementation of new NMR technologies by recognizing opportunities from literature, external conferences/workshops/courses and interactions with NMR vendors.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and collaborate with peers in a team-based environment focused on skill development and professional growth.
  • Maintain a safe laboratory with a strong personal commitment to safety.  Participate in audits and prepare documentation where necessary. 

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Biochemistry field with 3+ years, hands-on experience in solution NMR spectroscopy, industrial preferred but not required.
  • Experience with protein dynamics and “omics,” specifically metabolomics and/or proteomics approaches preferred. Skill in sample preparation methods and software tools for analysis and visualization of “omics” data preferred.  
  • Knowledge in theoretical aspects of NMR and experimental design with demonstrated experience in optimization of parameters associated with data collection and processing.  
  • Hands-on skills in parameter optimization for custom operation of Bruker NMR Spectrometers and Topspin software.  Experience in development and implementation of new pulse sequences and/or solid-state NMR a plus.
  • Knowledge in complementary analytical methodologies (MS, HPLC, SEC, etc) considered a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and changing priorities
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to promote a collaborative environment.
