IFF’s Health and Biosciences division has an exciting opening for a Formulation Research Associate to join our Formulation R&D team in Wilmington, DE. IFF Health and Biosciences is a leading provider of sustainable solutions for food and health industries that provides world class probiotics, proteins, emulsifiers/sweeteners, cultures, drug excipients, enzymes, and bioactives.  You will join our innovative, multi-disciplinary group to support our diverse range of enzyme delivery programs. This position requires hands-on work in the laboratory.  


Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of enzyme formulations through preparation, characterization, and testing of a wide variety of prototype enzyme compositions.  
  • Produce test samples and characterize them using a broad range of analytical and application assays.  
  • Develop and troubleshoot methods aimed at measuring the chemical, physical, and microbiological characteristics of protein formulations. 
  • Partner with regulatory, marketing, and manufacturing to translate customer needs into real, innovative solutions leveraging your deep expertise in enzyme delivery. 

Job Requirements

  • BS/MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Formulation Science or related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience, including hands-on laboratory research in formulation development.
  • Experience in the preparation and analysis of small molecule and/or protein formulations.
  • Experience in protein analysis and analytical method development (e.g., enzyme activity assays, spectroscopy, gel techniques, colorimetric assay, HPLC, microscopy, etc.).
  • Understanding of protein-protein, protein-solvent and protein-excipient interactions.
  • Experience with high throughput robotic screening a plus.
  • Experience with live microbe-based liquid or solid formulations is a plus.
  • Basic experimental design, statistics knowledge and analytical principles.
  • Motivated self-starter with good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Versatile team player – ability to work on multiple projects at once; willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
