As Process Analytical Scientist/Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and installing process analytical technology at-line, online, inline, and near-line. You will also be a member of project teams focused on continuous improvement of quality, cost productivity, and capacity release. To be successful in the role, you will: (1) be familiar with a variety of analytical techniques, e.g., spectroscopies, rheology, wet chemistry, etc; (2) stay apprised of the latest analytical technology, and (3) work with external suppliers to design/specify the most-effective technology for our processes.

 

The home workplace will be IFF in Wilmington, Delaware and is part of a larger Leveraged Engineering Team that supports manufacturing sites across all of IFF. This laboratory-based position reports directly to the Global Manufacturing Technology Director for Nourish. Additionally, we are a very collaborative team and occasional regional and global travel to other sites may be required as part of the role.   Our factories are high-tech food, scent, consumer product, and industrial product ingredient manufacturing facilities and are part of International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF). The production is carried out using several processes, which range from traditional syntheses or biotechnology to various purification and completion processes. Our ingredients create value for our customers worldwide and help produce safer and healthier products.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • Relevant industrial experience: 5+ years for PhD or 7+ years for Bachelor’s/Master’s
  • Strong expertise in spectroscopy
  • Working knowledge of rheology, wet chemistry, NMR, and other analytical techniques
  • Experience designing or working with suppliers to design sample systems for industrial processes
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills both written and oral
  • Competent in Microsoft Office with high-level knowledge in Excel & PowerPoint
  • Previous experience managing large and complex projects/programs is preferred
  • Green Belt/Black Belt Six Sigma certification & statistical analysis expertise is preferred 
  • The ability to work independently with excellent time management and judgment in prioritization skills is critical
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required (10-20%)
