Do you want to drive R&D in the field of citrus? It is an exciting time to be part of IFF! We are looking for a Senior Scientist, Analytical Chemistry Citrus Innovation to join our NOURISH Business Unit Team. The function will be at our New Citrus Innovation Center in Lakeland, Florida starting in the 1st quarter of 2024.

 
Join IFF as a Senior Analytical Chemistry Scientist and make a difference!  The role is in our Nourish platform but will be covering the full IFF portfolio and has a strong functional link to the leaders of IFF’s corporate R&D analytical team.  

    

Purpose: 

 

As a leader in the flavor, fragrance, and food ingredients industry, we are vested in creating sustainable, socially fair products bringing value to our customers. As Senior Scientist Analytical Chemistry Citrus Innovation at IFF, you will lead a small analytical team dedicated to supporting R&D activities, as well as supporting commercial projects that support our Citrus products sales. The team executes modern chromatographic methods (GC, LC, MS, FID, DAD) and classical wet chemical methods.  

 

Job Description: 

 

  • You will be the point of contact within the Citrus Innovation Center for analytical chemistry-related aspects of IFF’s efforts to develop sustainable citrus products.  
  • You will create a strong connection to IFF’s corporate R&D analytical teams.  
  • You will organize the technical expertise, project planning, communication, and collaboration with stakeholders of the citrus analytical team, with timely reporting of accurate results. 
  • Being at the forefront of the development of Flavor, Fragrance, and food ingredients materials requires a deep understanding of relevant, state-of-the-art tools methods, and models. You should therefore enjoy monitoring developments in these areas closely, and proactively exploring and pursuing new and alternative technical approaches. 
  • You with your team will be responsible for the Global Citrus innovation site’s analytical support: 
  • Daily execution of analytical procedures, both GC-FID, MS, and LC-DAD, and classical wet chemical methods 
  • Build expert-level knowledge of existing test methods; develop novel screening methods; correlate results with method parameters 
  • Identify quality-determining product parameters 
  • Infrastructure: Maintain existing lab infrastructure for a suite of analytical methods 
  • Optimize workflow for high-throughput screening 
  • Provide technical oversight to internal stakeholders. 
  • Partner with internal customers on research/customer projects on optimal analytical support.  
  • Organize and maintain the liaison for special internal corporate R&D and external analysis needs. 
  • Establish and maintain a network, both internal and external to the Florida Citrus Research Center. 
  • Represent IFF in analytical chemistry with both internal and external stakeholders. 

Job Requirements

 

To successfully perform the requirements of this position, the incumbent must possess a Ph.D. or master's degree in chemistry, preferred analytical chemistry or a related degree and experience typically gained through 5+ years in the citrus, food, or F&F industry.  

Experience with executing standard instrumental analytical methods. 

Proven record of accomplishment of success in developing and implementing new analytical technologies, methods, and/or models. 

Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills are necessary.   

You have demonstrated experience in independently conceptualizing and conducting research that leads to original ideas or solutions. 

This position operates in a laboratory/pilot plant environment.  

The function may require outside travel up to 10% of the time.  

Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and drive cross-functional project teams. 

Works on confidential projects.  

Experience in the flavor, fragrance, or food industry, more specifically in the area of citrus product development is preferred.  

Also preferred, is significant knowledge of the technical aspects of citrus including Citrus fruit and byproduct processing including all industrial aspects, the composition of citrus byproducts/raw materials, and physics and physical chemistry applications. 

The position reports to the Global Citrus Innovation Team with a strong functional link to the leaders of IFF’s corporate R&D analytical team.
